|12 points and 7 assists for a huge upset: Laia Palau|
A joyous CCC Polkowice brought Turkish Cup winners Galatasaray back down to earth with a real bump after claiming a famous 58-51 road victory in EuroLeague Women Group C.
The Polish club registered one of the biggest shocks of the season so far and arguably the most impressive result in their history, as they fought back in magnificent style to overturn a 15 point deficit and come out on top.
Gala only had themselves to blame for the defeat, paying a heavy penalty for their poor three-point shooting and some inexcusably abysmal free-throw shooting.
The hosts finished the game ruing a staggering 13 missed foul shots and in a game decided during crunch time, that was to prove a real killer blow- as was the dagger triple delivered by Nnemkadi Ogwumike inside the last 40 seconds which pretty much sealed the deal for the triumphant visitors.
In a game dominated by defence during the early stages, Galatasaray looked to have put the game to bed early when they exploded into life offensively and suffocated the Polkowice offence to establish a commanding 37-22 advantage.
But, to the surprise of just about everybody, the visiting team clawed their way back and turned the tables with a 12-4 start to the final quarter which was decisive.
And Gala laboured to keep the scoreboard moving, they took a grip of the game by moving 52-47 ahead. Then, even when Lindsay Whalen got Gala back to within a point, Ogwumike struck from downtown before her team-mates wrapped up a memorable night from the free-throw line.
It didn't prove to be a happy return to the competition for Alba Torrens who played for the first time this season since recovering from her ACL injury.
Ann Wauters had a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds in defeat, whilst Laia Palau had 12 rebounds and seven assists for the winning team.
Galatasaray player Alba Torrens
"Games are always difficult in the ELW. This is an example for it. I feel better now after the injury but I have to practice more and play better also."
CCC Polkowice head coach Jacek Winnicki
"Galatasaray is a great team and their coach is good, we knew that. We played better in the second half and fought to win."
CCC Polkowice player Valeriya Berezhynska
"In the first half we did not play the way we wanted but in the second half we found easy shots and succeded and then a great win came out."
