GAME REPORT

Ekat Win Gives Ros Final Berth

Turning Point: Candace Parker managed to come up with a big play with less than 30 seconds remaining when she blocked Ewelina Kobryn and that really handed the initiative to Ekat in crunch time.

Game Heroes: Deanna Nolan enjoyed a terrific game for the winning team with 19 points while Parker finished with twelve points, seven rebounds and two blocks.

Stats Don't Lie: UMMC Ekaterinburg showed their superior strength in depth with 19 points off the bench compared to just 2 from Wisla Can-Pack.

UMMC Ekaterinburg claimed their first success at Final Eight with a 67-59 victory against Wisla-Can Pack but it won't make up for missing out on another EuroLeague Women Final.

Having lost their opening contest against Ros Casares and due to the Spanish club securing their second success in the first game of the day, Ekat's dreams had already been shattered.

In fact, it was Wisla Can-Pack who had the opportunity of potentially progressing and led by the impressive Nicole Powell who poured in a game-high 23 points, they came mightily close but were eventually denied in the closing seconds.

Trailing 58-45 with just five minutes left to play in the game, it looked the dream was also over for the Polish club too but helped by the introduction of Ana Dabovic, they came alive and posted a stunning 12-0 run.

It set up a nerve shredding finale but it was Ekat who held kept their composure to see off Wisla and claim the win.

A triple on the buzzer by Sue Bird who played the game wearing a protective mask ensured a rather flattering final score-line for the Russian club.

The result meant that Ros Casares became the first team to make it to the 2012 EuroLeague Women Final.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes UMMC Ekaterinburg vs. Wisla Can-Pack

UMMC Ekaterinburg head coach Algirdas Paulauskas
"We did not show our best game today. Maybe this is because of the traces of yesterday's hard game and troubles. But actually it seemed like both teams waited for the last minutes of the game to decide who is the winner. And before the game we said to the players that the most dangerous players of Wisla are Nicole Powell and Ewelina Kobryn. But unfortunately we didn't manage to stop them in the right way. So that is why we had these problems. Sue bird was very uncomfortable. Playing with a mask was not easy for her. While Sue needed a rest and felt uneasy, Deanna was the real leader of the team on the court tonight."

UMMC guard Deanna Nolan
"It's good to bounce back after yesterday's tough loss. Losing a starting point guard (Sue Bird) in the warm up with a broken nose is hard. We are glad to have her back. It was a good, hard-fought game that came down to the end and we are happy to pull it out."

Wisla Can-Pack forward Nicole Powell
"It was a tough game. Our opponent played really good. It is difficult when you lose but we have another game tomorrow and we should prepare for that."
