|Kristaps Plavnieks and Latvia stormed back to beat neighbours Lithuania in a close finish|
Trailing 63-70 with 6:46 remaining, the Latvian team started to turn the momentum with a three-pointer from Davis Geks, and Geks followed immediately with a steal as Lithuania's offense struggled down the stretch.
Geks hit another three to tie the game, and two jumpers from game high-scorer Rolands Smits helped propel Latvia forward.
Armands Ginters hit a huge jumpshot at a critcal time and Kristaps Gluditis sealed the game from the free-throw line as some big shots from Lithuania's Edvinas Seskus ensured a frantic finale.
Latvian coach Nikolays Mazurs was full of praise for his team at the end: "I'm very proud of them... to come back, after trailing by 10 points, and playing under pressure like this, it's very good."
Smits impressed with a 10/17 shooting performance for 23 points, and Gluditis contributed 17 points. For Lithuania, Seskus added 12 rebounds to his 20 points, but Latvia's defense was able to restrict the opportunities for his teammates.
The first half had been very well-fought with Lithuania looking powerful inside. Coach Mazurs said, "We tried to change our defense, but Lithuania acted against it with the two big guys, so we changed again."
Half-time was reached with Lithuania one point ahead, 44-43, and through the third quarter they slowly extended the advantage with some great ball movement.
But Latvia's strong comeback was impressive, and met by wild celebrations from their players at the final buzzer.
