The Czech Republic used stifling defense and a barrage of three-pointers to beat Greece and send the sell out crowd home happy in Hradec Kralove.

The Czech defense limited Greece to just 9 points in the second quarter and 11 points in the third quarter. Michail Liapis top-scored for Greece with 12 points, but the Greek team were held to 34% shooting overall.

Coach Petr Treml commented after the game, "We reminded the players at half-time that we need a strong third-quarter performance. We almost lost it against Spain yesterday in the third quarter. Our third quarter was fantastic, and it finished the Greek team and then we just grew in confidence."

On offense, the Czech team hit 10 of 24 three-point attempts. Radovan Kouril top-scored with 22 points and contributed 7 assists also.

Jiri Soula (16 points and 5 steals) and Martin Peterka (15 points and 7 rebounds) added to the Czech attack.

The first quarter was frantic, with both sides hitting many shots. Anastasios Spyropoulos scored a bucket and got the foul with 0:16 left in the period to make the score 27-22, a 5 point lead for the Czechs.

In the second quarter the Czech defense forced more Greek misses and turnovers, but the Czech outside shooters remained on fire, with five players scoring a total of six threes in the first half. Each made shot was met with wild cheers from a packed home crowd.

Leading by 12 at half-time, the Czechs immediately hit two further shots from outside thanks to Peterka and Soula. The 8-2 run to start the half stretched the lead to 18, and Greece never got close as the home crowd didn't allow the momentum to stop.
