GAME REPORT

Spain Dominate Poland

11. Adria Cantenys (Spain)
Adria Cantenys and Spain stormed out the gates to claim their first win of the championship

Spain recovered from their opening game loss with a win over Poland in Hradec Kralove.

Alberto Martin led Spain with 16 points and some nice passing for 8 assists. Ignasi Moix added 13 points.

Poland's top scorer was Mikolaj Witlinski with 10 points.

After the game, Spain coach Diego Ocampo told Fiba Europe, "Today we didn't let our level drop. Yesterday, there were some good periods and some bad periods. Today was much better."

Spain started the game well and hit four three-pointers in the opening quarter, two consecutive shots from Moix giving Spain an early 18-4 lead.

Meanwhile Ilimane Diop was patrolling the defensive end and not allowing any easy inside scores, adding 7 blocks and 11 rebounds to his 14 points.

Poland increased their own defensive intensity to hold the Spanish team to 11 points in the second quarter, but Spain still held a 35-26 lead at half-time.

In the second half the lead remained at around ten points before a sequence of play where Diop tip-dunked an offensive rebound, then blocked a shot and ran up court to capitalize with another dunk.

Poland were never able to recover the momentum after that burst, despite the best attempts of the travelling Polish fans to lift the team's spirits.

Coach Ocampo was happy after the game: "We lost some confidence yesterday. We needed a game like this to help the players mature, and now we feel confident for future games."
