Group B of the U16 European Championship featured another surprising result with a one-sided 66-46 win of France over Lithuania at Osnovna Skola Jugoslavija in Bar, Montenegro on Thursday night.
The win takes France to a 1-0 balance in Group B along with Denmark while Lithuania fell to a 0-1 side by side with Greece.
In the next day France will try to remain unbeaten against Greece and Lithuania will seek their debut victory against the surprising team of Day 1 - Denmark.
France dominated the game from the start and had an answer from every Lithuanian comeback attempt, until a decisive run in the fourth quarter created a gap big enough to cruise to a 20 point win.
Charly Maraux was the best performer of the winners tonight with 19 points, seven boards and four assists, Boris Dallo added 10 and Alexandre Chassang added eight points with nine rebounds.
Augustinas Jankaitis was the top scorer for Lithuania with 15 points in addition to six rebounds.
Maraux displayed his arsenal and was on fire from the start and hit 10 points in five minutes to give his team a 15-9 lead.
Lithuania fought back but Anthony Racine hit another three pointer to make it 22-14 after ten minutes of basketball and send out a message to the Lithuanian side.
Jankaitis with a great move along with big shots by his team-mates from the arc, made it only a two point game, 27-25, but Balo and Maraux with another big time hit created an 11 point distance between the sides at the end of the first half, 37-26.
Jankaitis carried his team back in the game, but saw Maraux strike back as the teams entered the last quarter still separated by 10 points, 48-38, yet for the next three minutes France locked the rim and added seven more points to the gap, to leave their rivals speechless.
