|Milija Mikovic led the charge for Montenegro with a game-high 22 points|
Montenegro registered a comfortable 84-70 win over the Czech Republic in Day 2 action in U20 European Championship Group C, in what was the Balkan side's opening game in the tournament.
Turning Point: Although Montenegro led from start to finish, they did not create some considerable gap from the Czechs during the first quarter. The Czechs scored the first basket in the second to reduce to 22-18 but Montenegro replied with a relentless 14-0 run that lifted them to a 36-18 lead, on a Nikola Zizic and-one play with 3:44 remaining to half-time.
Game Hero: Milija Mikovic scored 11 of Montenegro's first 14 points in the game, setting the pace right from tip-off and helping his team-mates gain confidence early on. The power forward finished with a game-high 22 points on 10-for-13 from the floor and added seven rebounds.
Stats Don't Lie: Montenegro dominated most aspects of the game during the first half and although the Czech Republic improved dramatically in the second, the Czechs only raised their field-goal percentage from 28.6% to 36.5%, while Montenegro converted 57.4% of their shots from the floor throughout the game. Montenegro also boxed out with admirable effectiveness and out-rebounded the Czechs 46-31.
The Bottom Line: Montenegro has every reason to feel optimistic about their upcoming games while the Czech Republic are bottom of the group with two defeats in as many games.
