Turkey have concluded the First Round at the U20 European Championship on Crete undefeated and claimed first place in Group C after enjoying an emphatic 81-64 victory over the Czech Republic on Friday.
Turning Point: Turkey took to the court in laser-focused mode and pulled away steadily right from tip-off. They ran in the open court and scored easy points in transition to establish a 26-13 lead at the end of the first quarter, enjoying the biggest gap midway through the third quarter, 60-35.
Game Hero: By the time the half-time buzzer sounded at Heraklion Arena, each of the 12 players on the Turkish squad had already seen at least five minutes of action on the court and ten of them had written their name on the scoreboard.
Stats Don't Lie: Turkey scored 13 of their 15 fast-break points during their best stretch in the game, when they built their cushion. That was also the period of the game where they shared the ball more effectively, dishing out 12 of their 18 total assists, which has been their best mark in the tournament so far.
The Bottom Line: If Turkey showed one flaw during their four games in the First Round of the tournament it was a certain loss of concentration late, with a consequent dry spell either in the third or fourth quarter. The Czech Republic face an agonising wait as they hope for Croatia to lose to Montenegro later on Friday in order to maintain some hopes of advancing to the Second Round.
