The Lithuanians were in part helped by a truly terrible shooting day for Montenegro who could only muster a meagre three triples from 25 attempts during the game and that proved costly.
In fact it was Montenegro that had dominated early in the game, a score by Filip Samojlovic opening up a double figure lead at 26-16 during the second quarter. However, a dreadful start to the third quarter was to prove their downfall as Lithuania sparked into life and produced a 21-7 tear to move 45-37 ahead.
It had looked the momentum might have been heading back the way of Montenegro after they came back from a six point deficit heading into the final minute of regulation to force the extra period thanks to Vladimir Mihailovic who top scored for his team with 20 points.
However they dried up big-time during overtime and only managed one basket as Lithuania took control.
Eimantas Bendzius and Adomas Drungilas both scored 15 points each for Lithuania.
