Angela Djelmis and Monika Veselovski were the unlucky players cut from the final Serbia & Montenegro squad for the women’s European Championships.
Serbia & Montenegro boss Miodrag Veskovic, after watching his group play Hungary in two recent friendlies, dropped the duo from his 12-strong contingent and then admitted it had been an incredibly difficult decision.
"It was very hard for me to decide on the final 12 players for European Championships,” said Veskovic, whose side take on Poland in their first game on Friday in Pyrgos.
“The girls did their best during preparations, but just 12 of them can be in Greece. Among them, there won't be Djelmis and Veselovski.
"I looked for the best solution at playmaker position. We needed a player who will bring more pace and rhythm into our offensive actions, so I was uncertain, Biljana Stankovic or young Monika Veselovski.
“I decided on Stankovic, as she has more experience with national team, but I must say that was one of my toughest decisions this summer. On the other hand, Katarina Manic is our third choice for guard.
“She worked and played well for us, and the Serbia and Montenegro university squad, so she, Stankovic and our first play Gordana Grubin will be our "long range artillery" at Eurobasket.”
