|Dragana Stankovic continues to increase her presence in every game for Serbia|
Serbia led from start to finish as they swept aside Latvia 79-50 in Udine on Friday to book their place in the U20 European Championship Women semi-finals.
Turning Point: Serbia had already assumed the position of front runner when Aleksandra Stanacev's three-pointer midway through the second period started a 7-0 run. That sequence stifled Latvia's attempts to hit back and grew Serbia's lead to 15.
Game Hero: Dragana Stankovic was dominant in the post on both ends of the floor, finishing with numbers of 25 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks, but also opening the floor out for her opponents.
Stats Don't Lie: Serbia's ability to get inside and get the shots they wanted saw them rack up 38 points in the paint compared to Latvia's 12.
Serbia set their stall out from the opening tip, pushing the pace and spreading the floor.
They opened up an early 15-4 lead behind back-to-back threes from Katarina Vuckovic before Latvia woke up and reduced the gap to nine as Sindija Gutmane beat the first-quarter buzzer.
That could have sparked a shift in momentum but Aleksandra Crvendakic and Dragana Stankovic ensured this would not be the case with a couple of quick scores to start the second as Serbia continued to control the game.
Latvia tried to increase their defensive intensity in an effort to narrow the gap in the third period but this only served to create yet more space for Stankovic to go to work inside and score 14 of her game-high 25 points.
Serbia's superiority on the boards also allowed them to get multiple looks at the basket on each trip up the floor while eating up the clock, which by this point was well and truly on their side.
Despite trailing 61-44 heading into the fourth quarter Latvia never gave up fighting but, if anything, this may have worked against them as they began to chase the game and were picked off on the fast-break.
