|Polina Sych nailed a late key three-pointer for Russia|
Polina Sych sunk the go-ahead three pointer with 90 seconds to play as Russia recovered from trailing for 36 minutes to beat Latvia 63-59 and claim third place in Group E at the U20 European Championship Women.
Turning Point: Sych's vital triple not only gave Russia the lead but also the belief to go on and complete the job while, to the same token, sapping Latvia of their confidence and introducing that feeling of the game slipping away despite their early control.
Game Hero: That critical three-pointer may have turned the game the way of the Russians late on but Sych would never have been in a position to make that shot - not to mention the late free throw to ice the game - had it not been for the frontcourt tandem of Julia Gladkova and Albina Razheva who combined for 31 points and 12 rebounds.
Stats Don't Lie: Despite trailing for long periods Russia were actually on top in numerous categories but their superior rebounding (45-35) was the reason for this as it allowed them to get out on the fast-break, where they got 15 of their points, while pouring in another 16 second-chance points.
The Bottom Line: This result confirmed Group E's line-up with Russia finishing third, ahead of Latvia, who still qualify, and will face Group F winners Serbia in the quarter-finals while Spain top the group ahead of France.
