GAME REPORT

Perfect Spain Reach Semi-Finals

7. Inmaculada Zanoguera (Spain)
Inmaculada Zanoguera pounced on a tiring Russian defence, scoring eight points in the third quarter to secure Spain's buffer

Turning Point: Spain took control in the first quarter, as their lead, and with it a place in the Saturday's semi-finals, was never in question.

Game Hero: Astou Ndour was unstoppable in the paint, scoring 23 points on 11-for-14 two-point shooting in less than 25 minutes on the floor.

Stats Don't Lie: Spain had five players in double figures, and had one less point in the paint (44) than Russia scored the entire game (45).

Two-time defending champions Spain kept their perfect record intact, moving into the semi-finals of the U20 European Championship Women with a comfortable 78-45 win over Russia on Friday.

Center Astou Ndour established her inside presence early on, and Russia did not manage to find a way to contain her at any stage whilst she was on the floor. Meanwhile, Spain used their proven recipe of maintaining their defensive pressure at all times, and cruised to victory.

With an 11-2 run late in the first quarter, Spain took an 18-14 lead and never trailed again. In the second stanza, two buckets from Paula Estebas and a triple from Yurena Diaz helped Spain pull away, and go into halftime 37-26 up.

Russia stayed within range through Daria Namok and Galina Kiseleva, but had no answer for Ndour inside.

In the third quarter when Inmaculada Zanoguera joined Ndour with her offensive production, scoring with slashes and dashes through the Russian defence, extending the margin to 47-30.

Spain never stopped playing defence, and trying to run on the fast break, as the lead continued to grow up until the final buzzer.

In addition to her 23 points, Ndour also grabbed seven rebounds. Zanoguera scored eight of her 13 points in the third quarter, Sara Rodriguez added 12, while Estebas and Diaz finished with 10 apiece.

Ksenia Tikhonenko had 11 points and seven rebounds in defeat.
