The Slovak Republic won their first game in Group E action, and improved their quarter-final chances with a 62-47 win over the Netherlands at the U20 European Championship Women on Tuesday.
Slovakia allowed only one field goal over a span of more than 12 minutes, and used it to build 24-10 second-quarter lead, which they never relinquished.
The Dutch rallied with a 12-0 run late in the third to close within a point (39-38) and threatened to complete a comeback, but Slovak Republic made a 12-0 run in the final four minutes of the encounter to run away with a victory.
The Netherlands went 15-for-24 from the foul line, shooting 18 more free throws, but Slovakia overcame that deficit forcing 17 turnovers, and outscored their opponents 20-7 in fast break and second chance points.
Sabína Oroszová led in victory with 20 points, Angelika Slamova had 12 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Barbora Bálintova also scored 12. Gabrielle Van Den Bosch netted 14 points for the Netherlands.
