Lithuania squeezed past Ukraine 64-59 in their first match in Classification Group G to pick up their first victory at the U20 European Championship Women on Monday.
An 11-2 run at the start of the second half helped Lithuania grab a 48-38 lead. Ukraine rallied behind Miriam Uro-Nile who strung together seven consecutive points to tie it at 59 with a little over a minute to go. However, Ieva Preskienyte put Lithuania back in front and they sealed the deal in the final seconds from the free-throw line.
In a tight contest, Lithuania put more trips to the foul line to good use. They went 9-for-18 compared to Ukraine's mere five-for-eight, in what turned out be just enough for victory.
Preskienyte finished with 21 points and nine rebounds, Ieva Kazlauskaite collected a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Agne Cerneckyte had 10 points, six assists and five rebounds. Uro-Nile had 17 points in defeat.
