Serbia head coach Radenko Varagic has announced his preliminary roster for the U20 European Championship Women.

A total of 16 candidates have gathered in Belgrade, where the first stage of training camp takes place.

"All girls have responded to the call and are ready to work hard, which is the most important thing," Varagic said.

"We will try to give our best in every practice and in every game."

The group will stay in Belgrade until 11 July, before moving to Banja Koviljaca for the second phase of preparations.

Serbia will play against the Serbian U18 women's team, Turkey and France in friendly games.

Kaja Stankovic and Snezana Colic are the only players on the roster who have played on the U20 team before.

Serbia clinched fourth spot at the U20 European Championship Women in 2011, just missing out on a medal in front of their home crowd in Novi Sad.

Other than that, this Serbian generation had not been crowned with success in the previous years, as they finished 14th as a team at the 2008 U16 European Championship Women and 12th at the 2010 U18 European Championship Women.

For Varagic, these past results serve as both motivation and an advantage.

"This generation did not have much success in the past. We will give our all to be more successful this time," the coach said.

"Nobody expects extraordinary results from us, so we will be without pressure and try to advance as far as possible."

The U20 European Championship Women will be staged from 16-26 August in Debrecen, Hungary.

Serbia will face the Slovak Republic, Great Britain and Russia in Group B.
