|Russia's Darya Namok made three of five three-point attempts to finish with a team-high 14 points|
Russia ended a roller-coaster First Round with a 64-57 success against Serbia to take top spot in Group D at the U20 European Championship Women but had to rely on a final quarter flourish to get the job done.
They had found themselves trailing by five points early in the final quarter but they finished strongly, utilising their superior depth to get themselves in a winning position with a triple by Darya Namok in the last minute finally ending Serbian resistance.
Serbia was short-handed and not able to field a full roster of players but you would hardly have noticed it.
For despite trailing by eight points heading to the locker rooms, they returned to post a magnificent third quarter.
They outscored Russia 21-11 to seemingly turn the game on its' head but they couldn't hold on to their new found advantage and faded at the crucial time.
Ivana Brajkovic was excellent for the losing team with 16 points and 13 rebounds while Snezana Colic top-scored with 25 points.
But, the sharp perimeter shooting of Namok and Ekaterina Fedorenkova were key in helping Russia take the win.
