Chiemeka: Preparations Continue

01 August 2008
By Katrin Chiemeka

Hi!

As mentioned in my last blog we reported to camp at the beginning of July to prepare for the U18 European Championship Division B. The training was a good preparation, well structured and intensive with the highlight of two international tournaments: the six-nation tournament in Luxemburg and the four-nation tournament in Estonia.

The tournament in Luxembourg was organised as part of the Luxembourg Basketball Federation's 75th anniversary. This weekend some U16 boys and girls teams, including the ones from England, will conclude the Luxembourg's federation celebration.

Over the two tournaments we finished with a four and four record which is encouraging. In our victories and defeats we learned a lot. Of course this goes for all the teams. We proved that we could step up in our game and were able to jell as a team!

I believe that this quote from Henry Ford sums up our preparation: "Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success."

I really enjoyed the tournaments, especially the trip to Estonia as I have never been to this country. Thanks to our Estonian guide Merelise (not sure about the spelling, sorry) we discovered the capital Tallin, a beautiful, old town and found out a lot about the Estonian custom itself.

Also a big thank you to all the organisers of the tournaments, coaches and managers who permitted us to spend a great month of July.

During the time I was busy training, European championships were already going on. I want to congratulate France U20 for their second place and France U18 for qualifying for the U19 world championship! And for England U20, I am sure they will do better next year.

Of course I would like to wish good luck to the U16 French and English teams and hope they will do well in their respective championships.

I also wish all the best to all U18 teams going to Macedonia and hope that they are going to have a good time there.

"Good luck, play well and enjoy the experience!"

"Bonne chance, jouez bien et profitez du moment!"

"Onnea, pelaa hyvin ja nauti kokemuksesta!"

"Veel geluk, veel plezier en geniet van het moment!"

"Bol sans guzel bir mac olur bu anin tadini cikar!"

"Me fat, luj mire, dhe paq knaqesi ne experience!"

"Viel Glück, spielt gut und geniest den Moment!"

"Mnogo srece,igraj dobro i uzivaj u iskustvu!"

"Puno srece, dobro igraj i uzivaj to iskustvo!"

"Boa sorte, joga bem e tira prazer da experiência!"
