Sabine Niedola and Anete Klintsone combined for 36 points in helping Latvia secure second place in their qualifying round Group E with a 71-60 victory over the Netherlands at a quarter-final showdown with Turkey at the U20 European Championship for Women.

Niedola had 21 points and 14 rebounds while Klintsone had 15 points and seven assists as Latvia improved to 4-1 in the group. Anete Steinberga added nine points and 10 rebounds.

The Netherlands finished Group E play with a 1-4 record after Chatilla van Grinsven scored 16 points and Maaike Klein had 14.

Spurred on by the home crowd, Niedola (12 points) and Klintsone (10) combined for 22 points in building a 28-12 lead after one quarter.

Spanning the first and second quarters, the Latvians went on a 13-0 run to increase the advantage to 25 points, 37-12. The Dutch trimmed the margin to 17 points but Latvia were ahead 39-20 at the break.

The Netherlands worked hard defensively and Klein knocked down two triples in cutting the gap to 13 points. But the Latvian bench - sparked by Laura Purina's seven points in the third - pushed the advantage back to 54-35 going into the fourth.

Latvia struggled to close out the Dutch for good as the underdogs had a chance to cut the game to single digits in the final minute but could not.
