Westbrooks Enthusiastic About Irish U20 Women

01 July 2008

Ireland captain Leah Westbrooks is full of optimism heading into this summer's U20 European Championship for Women Division B in Poland but also realistic about the games ahead.

The Irish will be taking on Great Britain, Slovakia, Romania and Hungary, and Westbrooks said: "The European Championships will be really tough, but we really believe we can achieve something special.

"We have a healthy rivalry with Great Britain and it will take some excellent displays to see off the likes of Slovak Republic, Romania and Hungary."

Maeve Coleman's team will play their first game in Group A on July 11 at Hungary.

Ireland finished 10th in last year's 10-team U20 European Championship Division B event in Lithuania.

Ireland Under-20 Women Squad: Leah Westbrooks, Aisling Sullivan, Mairead McNally, Rachel Clancy, Sarah Woods, Becky Woods, Eimear Naughton, Shauna O Connor, Fiona Carrick, Emma Dyer, Ellevyn Irwin, Susie Doyle.
