Group A: Spain Secure Third Straight Win, Russia Cruise

Unbeaten Spain progressed to the qualifying round of the U20 European Championship for Women as Group A winners after beating Greece 67-47 on Sunday.

For the third straight game, Maria Pina led Spain in scoring with 18 points while Laura Gimeno added 18.

It was an all-round team effort from the Spanish, who had two other players finish in double figures.

Spain scored the first nine points of the game and went into the second quarter leading 20-7.

Greece hit back with a 15-7 surge to reduce the deficit to 27-22 after 17 minutes played but trailed 32-22 at the break.

Spain came out strong and went on a 13-0 run (48 27) over the next five minutes, with Patricia Arguello scoring six points in that spurt.

Greece's hopes of a comeback were hindered with Anna Spyridopoulou fouling out with eight minutes left to play. She finished with 12 points.

Spain outrebounded Greece 44-22 and had a better shooting afternoon, as they were 24-of-42 (57.1%) from the floor while their opponents were 16-of-52 (30.7%).

Russia 94, Israel 65

Russia thrashed Israel 94-65 on Sunday to progress to the qualifying round as the second-placed team in Group A.

Anna Sokolova had a game-high 16 points for the Russians.

It was an all-round team efforts from the Russians, with Natalya Myasoedova adding 15 points and Valeriya Musina 12.

Russia stormed out to a 34-13 lead after 10 minutes played and never looked back.

Russia were terrific shooting the ball from long range, making nine of 19 (47.4%) while their opponents were seven of 22 (31.8%).

Winless Israel were outrebounded 49 to 29.
