Turkish club Royal Hali Gaziantep, which participate in the EuroChallenge, announced on Thursday they have signed a one-year contract with the American-born veteran guard Ernest ( J.R.) Bremer.

Bremer was naturalised and represented Bosnia and Herzegovina during their EuroBasket 2009 Division A campaign and in the Additional Qualifying Round for the same tournament, where he averaged 8.5 points and 3.2 assists per game.

The 33-year-old had played for the Boston Celtics upon his graduation from college and was actually selected in the NBA All-Rookie Second Team during the 2002-03 season.

The following year he suited up for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors, before landing in Europe to sign for Spanish club Unicaja Malaga in 2004.

Bremer continued his European career with Biella in Italy, PAOK Thessaloniki in Greece and Bosna Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The left-handed guard then spent the best part of five seasons in Russia, playing first at Spartak Primorje, then at Triumph Lyubertsy and at Krasnye Krylia Samara for two years.

In his first season with the Samara club he reached the final of the 2010 edition of the EuroChallenge, where Krasnye Krylia fell 83-75 to German side BG Göttingen.

Bremer had averaged 11.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 5.5. assists per game in that EuroChallenge campaign to help the Russian team reach the title game.

The veteran returned to the EuroChallenge two years later, when in the meantime he had joined fellow Russian club Nizhny Novgorod, but his new team did not advance past the Last 16 phase.

Bremer finished the 2012 season in Italy with Olimpia Milano and started last season at Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce, before returning to Milano in the winter, after then coach Simone Pianigianni and the Istanbul powerhouse parted ways.

Gaziantep, who have picked up one win in their first two games in the Turkish BEKO Ligi, are gearing up for their first participation in a European competition this year.

The Turkish team were drawn in EuroChallenge Regular Season Group B, together with
Atomerömü Paks of Hungary, CSM Oradea of Romania and reigning champions Krasnye Krylia.
