The scores in the Group H clash between BC Mures and Minsk were tied at 82 and the 25-year-old center had already scored 24 points on 9-of-14 from the floor, corralled 8 rebounds and blocked a season second-best 5 shots when he was fouled with less than a second left on the clock.
Benson, who averages 92.9% from the charity stripe in the EuroChallenge, took his fifth trip to the foul line on the night and sunk both free throws to seal an 84-82 victory for this team.
In addition to sentencing directly the result with his game-winning shots, Benson also registered an efficiency index rating of 36, the highest anywhere in the EuroChallenge in Week 5, with his stellar performance.
Benson's statistical display is a season joint-best, together with the Week 3 showing of Triumph Lyubertsy sharp-shooter Courdon Higgins, the only other player to have reached an efficiency rating of 36 so far in the competition.
Two battle-hardened European players followed Benson and stepped on the podium of individual statistical performance this week, while also leading their respective teams to victory.
De Jong scored a team-high 18 points and added seven rebounds, six assists, three steals and three blocks to reach a rating of 31 on the efficiency index scale.
At the same time on Tuesday in Belgium, Maxime De Zeeuw, who was joint-top statistical performer in Week 1 of the EuroChallenge, was propelling Port of Antwerp Giants to a comfortable 81-59 win over JDA Dijon.
The Belgian power forward picked up a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds, also adding 2 steals and 2 blocks, to register a rating of 30, the third-highest this week behind Benson's and De Jong's.
