Tartu, Kormend Bring In Reinforcements

22 November 2013

Two teams that registered the first win of their EuroChallenge campaign in Week 3, Tartu University Rock and Inkognito Fashion Körmend, announced on Friday that they have modified their respective rosters.

Vilmantas Dilys
Vilmantas Dilys is supposed to fill the void left by the departure of Uros Lukovic

Tartu University Rock coped with the loss of big man Uros Lukovic, who parted for pastures new last weekend, by enjoying a 99-65 rout of Södertälje BK in Group C on Tuesday.

None the less, the Estonian side needed to replace the solid presence of Lukovic in the paint, who contributed 13.5 points, six rebounds and two blocks per game, and wasted almost no time in doing so.

On Friday, Tartu announced that they have signed Vilmantas Dilys, who started the season at Lithuanian club Nevezis Kedainiai.

The 26-year-old center is a known quantity for Tartu and was averaging 15.8 points and six rebounds in the Baltic Basketball League with Nevezis so far this season.

"It was an easy option to hire a player from a neighbouring country, whose quality is evident and who is ready to help us immediately," said Tartu head coach Gert Kullamäe.

"Dilys can play at center or wide and I think he fits well in our rotation, but we will make some changes as compared to Lukovic he is faster and a more agile player," Kullamäe added.

The 2.06m Dilys was a Lithuanian international at youth level and last represented his country at the U20 European Championship in 2007,

Tartu's next game in the EuroChallenge is a tough assignment, as they travel to Latvia to take on group leaders BK Ventspils on 3 December.

8. Jeremy Fears (Körmend)
No longer on the books of Körmend: Jeremy Fears

Inkognito Fashion Körmend on the other hand, who survived an overtime thriller to defeat BC Kyiv 103-99 on Tuesday, have opted to modify their backcourt.

The Hungarian club announced on Friday that they have terminated their collaboration with Jeremy Fears and reached a temporary agreement with fellow American Muhammad El-Amin instead.

The 28-year-old Fears had averaged 12 points and 30% shooting from the floor and 3.7 assists per contest in the EuroChallenge.

El-Amin will initially undergo a 10-day trial period, which the Kormend coaching staff believe will be sufficient to evaluate his state of form.

The 26-year-old shooting guard had started the season in the D-League with the Los Angeles D-Fenders, but failed to secure a long-term contract.

El-Amin had posted excellent figures in the Israeli second division with Maccabi Kiryat Gat last season, as he contributed 17 points and five rebounds per game.

He actually started his professional career in Hungary, playing for Pecs immediately after graduating from Stony Brook University and later joined first division club Alba Fehervar during the 2011/12 season.
