|Vilmantas Dilys led the way for Tartu Rock with a 13-point, 13-rebound double-double|
Tartu Rock completed a remarkable fourth quarter comeback and then finished the job in overtime to open Group I play in the EuroChallenge with a 75-74 road win over Krasnye Krylia.
The hosts had led by 16 at the mid-point of the third quarter and went into the final stanza up 55-47, but Tartu came storming back to twice lead before Aaron Miles forced overtime with a lay-up four seconds from time.
A lay-up from Gert Dorbek gave them the advantage in the extra period and they clung on to a one-point lead as the score held through the final 82 seconds of play.
Krasnye Krylia appeared to have taken control with a 6-0 burst late in the second quarter giving them a 31-24 lead on Miles' lay-up.
Their lead moved into double figures early in the third period with Miles again pulling the trigger, and it was the point guard again to make it 46:32 with 7:22 left in the period.
Anton Ponkrashov's three stretched the lead to 53-37 two and a half minutes later but back-to-back threes from Valmo Kriisa kept Tartu alive as the fourth quarter neared.
It began with Janar Talts hitting a three after Vincent Simpson's lay-up to slice the lead to three, and another long-ball from Tanel Kurbas tied it at 60-60 with 5:36 to go.
Tartu got their noses in front but only briefly as the teams traded blows down the stretch, with the hosts leading a late Miles basket to avoid defeat in regulation.
Vilmantas Dilys led Tartu with 13 points and 13 rebounds while Dorbek had 11 points. Talts and Kurbas collected 10 each.
Miles poured in 24 points with seven assists and five steals for Krasnye Krylia, while Victor Keyru chipped in with 16 points.
Tartu Rock Head Coach Gert Kullamae
"It was a hard game. We knew that we came to play a tough opponent. At first it looked like we are a bit afraid, made some mistakes in defence. But later we started playing better. When there are only six games to play, each is important. I am happy with this away win. We started to play zone in the second half, which helped a lot. Our opponent began missing three-pointers, while we succeeded in rebounds."
Tartu Rock Player Janar Talts
"It was a hard game. We were behind, but came back. It is hard to play in Samara and to play against a favourite, but we had luck on our side. We played zone defence well, did good on offence. I am pleased to come back to Samara, I have very good memories of this city."
Krasnye Krylia Head Coach Sergey Bazarevich
"The situation with the team has not gotten better. While we had five players that are supposedly more skilled than their opponents, we still lost the game. I think that in key moments we made a lot of mistakes. Unfortunately we failed in defence. Now we put our hope in our newly signed players."
Krasnye Krylia Player Anton Pushkov
"Maybe it was a short bench today, also it was probably accumulated fatigue. Every game now is important, we should win every home game. Of course, after this loss, it will be a quite complicated situation now."
