Den Bosch Stand Tall Against Giants

6. Tai Wesley (SPM Shoeters Den Bosch)
Tai Wesley led the SPM Shoeters Den Bosch to their second win with 31 points

SPM Shoeters Den Bosch moved to 2-0 in Group A of EuroChallenge after they pulled away from the Antwerp Giants in the final minutes of an 83-76 victory.

The game stayed close for three quarters before Den Bosch took a lead, blew it, and then built another more decisive advantage in a thrilling final stanza.

Den Bosch made their first move as they scored the first six points of the fourth quarter to go 67-58 ahead on Stefan Wessels' three-pointer.

But just as quickly the Giants were level as Barry Stewart hit threes either side of another from Maxime De Zeeuw and Roel Moors' lay-up in an 11-2 run to make it 69-69 with 5:49 to play.

Den Bosch's answer was to score 12 more unanswered points, with the run including back-to-back threes from Kees Akerboom and Anthony Johnson, putting them up 81-69 with 1:48 to go.

Antwerp hinted at another rally, Jean-Marc Mwema's three making it 81-74 with 49 seconds left, but time ran out on them.

Tai Wesley led Den Bosch with 31 points while David Gonzalvez had 15 and Johnson 11.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes SPM Shoeters Den Bosch vs. PO Antwerp Giants

PO Antwerp Head Coach Paul Vervaeck:
""Overall we were not good enough tonight. Especially defensively we weren't focused. We need to pass and move quicker. I think we didn't anticipate like we should. It wasn't a technical problem; it was more a lack of energy tonight. Our big guys weren't good enough to defend Wesley inside. The focus of Den Bosch was better today."

PO Antwerp Player Barry Stewart:
"We didn't adjust well to the game. We made a few runs, but we never got over the hump. The pressure has to be there all the time but we didn't play the game like we wanted to. We have to do a better job. Tonight SPM Shoeters controlled the game. "

SPM Shoeters Head Coach Sam Jones:
"It was a high level of basketball tonight. I'm proud of my team, we were very energetic. There were too many turnovers, but overall we played very good. It doesn't matter who scores and who doesn't, I'm pleased with everyone's effort."

SPM Shoeters Player Tai Wesley:
"Tonight we came out excited, ready and with a lot of energy. We want to come out like that every game because when we do, we are a dangerous team, especially at home. If we can be consistent, the results will show that. We have to make sure that we don't have to bounce back."
