GAME REPORT

Krasnye Krylia Soar To Victory

21. Michal Ignerski (Krasnye Krylia)
Michal Ignerski continued to be a revelation for Krasnye Krylia with a strong 18-point showing

Krasnye Krylia blew away Port of Antwerp Giants in the fourth quarter to race away to an 87-67 victory and secure a ticket to the EuroChallenge quarter-finals.

In a straight fight for second place in Group I, the hosts busted open a tight contest by scoring the first 10 points of the final period and barely eased up thereafter, outscoring the visitors 25-11 in the period.

Michal Ignerski led the way with 18 points while Filip Videnov added 16 for the Samara club.

The teams had kept within spitting distance of one another until late in the second period when Krasnye Krylia began to pull clear, with a 9-0 run giving them a 43-31 lead when Anton Pushkov made a lay-up with 2:27 left in the half.

The gap was 10 at the break, but the Giants came back in the third period, with Maxime De Zeeuw scoring five in an 11-2 burst that made it 52-51 to Samara.

They were soon level on a Ryan Pearson three-pointer, but back-to-back threes from Larry O'Bannon helped the hosts open up a 62-56 lead going into the final period.

The game was still very much alive at that point, but not for much longer thanks to a devastating start to the final period, with Pushkov's free throws making it 72-56 less than three minutes into the quarter.

They only continued to pull away, with a Videnov dunk making it 82-62 with 2:16 to go.

O'Bannon and Aaron Miles scored 14 each for Krasnye Krylia with Pushkov adding 10.

Pearson led Antwerp with 14 points.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes: Krasnye Krylia vs. Port of Antwerp Giants

Krasnye Krylia Head Coach Sergey Bazarevich
"I am glad that we have won this do-or-die game - defeat meant leaving the tournament. We had some roughness in our game, did not start the third quarter very good, but as a whole we have shown one of our best performances and finished well. We have advanced to the play-offs, and this is a good result. Now we will do everything possible to reach the Final Four."

Krasnye Krylia Player Michal Ignerski
"It was very important that we did not allow our opponents to come to our home court and play their game. I think we did well on defence, although slowed down in the third. It is great that we could pick it up at a certain point and take the game and a solid win. We take it step by step in building up the spirit and the chemistry. Of course our fans helped us a lot today."

Port of Antwerp Giants Player Roel Moors
"We played well in the first quarter, did good in the second. But following halftime our opponents raised the level of their game. I think their win is well-deserved."

Port of Antwerp Giants Head Coach Paul Vervaeck
"Congratulations for the good game and the win. We knew the game would be tough. I think we played well before halftime. In general our European campaign can be considered successful. We will try to take it to our home championship and the Belgian Cup. Speaking about Krasnye Krylia, I think they are one of the contenders for the title."
