GAME REPORT

Rakovic Leads Triumph Rout

50. Milovan Rakovic (Triumph Lyubertsy)
Milovan Rakovic was one of four players in double figures for Triumph Lyubertsy

Triumph Lyubertsy overran BC Kyiv 94-58 to move to 2-0 in EuroChallenge Group D in a one-sided encounter in Lyubertsy.

Milovan Rakovic had 16 points while Ivan Lazarev, Courdon Higgins and Kyle Landry each added 13 for Triumph.

The night began with a moment of silence in remembrance of the victims of a gas explosion in Moscow on 11th November, which destroyed eight apartments. Triumph announced all proceeds from ticket and merchandise sales at this game would be donated to the victims.

Once the game started, Triumph wasted no time in asserting their superiority, taking a 15-5 lead when Lazarev made a lay-up midway through the first quarter.

Kyiv started the second period with a 7-2 burst to cut the gap but Triumph responded by warming up from three-point range, with back-to-back efforts from Higgins and Jeremy Chappell quickly padding the lead once again.

When Higgins ended the first half with two free throws, the lead was 50-32, but they were just getting started, and ended the game as a contest with an 18-0 run at the start of the third period which took it to 68-34.

There would be not let up down the stretch as Triumph continued to pull away, including a 9-0 run late in the fourth quarter to pile the misery on.

Vladyslav Kondratyev led Kyiv with 14 points while Michael Davis had 14 points with 12 rebounds.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Triumph Lyubertsy vs. BC Kyiv

BC Triumph head coach Vasily Karasev
"We played a good game, made our shots, we had a good balance in the game inside and outside. We didn't expect such a difference in scoring, but it's the result of the team game. My players from the very beginning didn't let the opponents feel the game, broke them on offense and played smart on defense."

BC Triumph player Milovan Rakovic
"We played against an unusual opponent for us, because they have a young roster and they are still adapting to the EuroChallenge way of play. I think that tonight our team made its homework, the most important thing is that we played as a team. We had to stay focused all the time, and the third quarter is the most dangerous in this situation, so we had to play concentrated, with good rhythm. We made a pretty good job and played good defense from the start of the game."

BC Kyiv head coach Vitaliy Cherniy
"The game today showed the low quality of our game, and Triumph played simple but good, a high-level game. We had a lot of misunderstandings on defense, chaos in offense, and I can't say what is the reason. I don't want to search the reason, I think that every player has to show the character on the court, but today we didn't have a team on the court."

BC Kyiv player Michael Davis
"Today Triumph was the better team, they played a better game, made good shots, made fast breaks. We have to stay together and work hard after this defeat."
