11. Michal Ignerski (Poland)
Polish international Michal Ignerski had a team-high 25 points in his EuroChallenge debut for Krasnye Krylia

Krasnye Krylia Samara nearly blew a 24-point lead but held on to beat Gaz Metan Medias on the road 80-77 to take their first win in Group I of the EuroChallenge Last 16.

Michal Ignerski paced Samara with 25 points while Anton Ponkrashov had 19, Filip Videnov 14 and Demetris Nichols 10.

Gaz Metan wasted a 26-point showing from Willie Kemp in dropping to 0-2, while Slavisa Bogavac scored 19 points and both Aurelian Dumitrescu and Augustine Okosun had 10.

Krasnye Krylia jumped ahead 15-9 and the lead continued to grow into double digits and was 29-13 after one quarter.

The Russian guests pushed the advantage to 40-16 in the second period before Gaz Metan started to play defence and used a 17-2 run to pull within 42-33.

At the break, the Samara advantage was 44-33.

Kemp scored the first nine points of the second half and the gap was one point at 52-51 with two minutes in the third. But Krasnye Krylia were up 59-54 after three quarters.

Ignerski spurred a 7-0 start to the fourth quarter for the guests to push the advantage to 66-54.

Gaz Metan would trim it to 74-71 inside the final minute but Ponkrashov hit a big basket and Videnov made two foul shots with 15 seconds left.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Gaz Metan Medias vs. Krasnye Krylia Samara

Krasnye Krylia Head Coach Sergey Bazarevich
"It's good that we won, that keeps our chances alive to get to the next round. It's an important win, especially when we think of the situation we are going through. It's very difficult to replace the players just like that, it takes time. But generally we played what we prepared for the game and it was the first quarter that helped us very much and we also had [Michal] Ignerski tonight."

Krasnye Krylia Player Michal Ignerski
„We started very good, and after that we lost our concentration, we were very selfish, so Gaz Metan used it and came back into the game. Most of the time we played how we had to, had bad moment but also good moments. This team has right now a lot of troubles, two new players, I'm one of them, so it's going to take some time to put us together. It was a difficult game after all."

Gaz Metan Medias Head Coach Marcel Tenter
„It was a very difficult game for us but except for the first quarter we played well. I can't explain to myself why in the first 10 minutes my players didn't play at a normal level. Krasnye Krylia used this and scored 29 points. Like I said the other three quarters we were the better team and that's the positive side of this game. Unfortunatelly with six players it's very difficult to play a EuroChallenge game."

Gaz Metan Medias Player Willie Kemp
„We started very bad and that was the key of the game. In the first quarter we couldn't find ourselves, so we started the game from -24 points. They had some missing players, we also missed some players, but we can't start a game like that. The other three quarters we were better but like I said the first one killed us."
