Szolnoki Olaj took control of Group J in the EuroChallenge as they saw off Reggio Emilia 90-78 in the battle of the top two.
Akos Keller and Willie Warren scored 17 points each to lead five Szolnoki players scoring in double figures as they followed up their weekend Hungarian Cup crown with a key victory.
The hosts pulled away in the second half as the absence of injured pair Andrea Cinciarini and Greg Brunner began to tell for Reggio Emilia.
It was a close battle in the early going. After Reggio Emilia edged in front, Szolnok reeled off 10 straight to go 20-13 up on David Vojvoda's dunk but the guests got back on track, and were back within one when Troy Bell's three made it 28-27.
But as Peter Lorant began to warm-up, Szolnok eased clear again and when Justin Holiday threw down Warren's alley-oop pass before half-time they led 45-35.
Reggio Emilia closed the gap again early in the second half, with Ojars Silins' three making it 54-52, but after Vojvoda and Marton Bader eased the hosts clear once more Reggio Emilia had no reply.
Bader's free throws stretched the lead into double figures and it maxed out when a three-point play from Keller made it 76-60 early in the fourth quarter.
Vojvoda finished with 15 points while Keller and Lorant had 12 each, while also adding nine rebounds apiece.
Bell poured in 25 points in vain for Reggio Emilia, while James White added 21.
Reggio Emilia Head Coach Massimiliano Menetti
"Two important players were missing tonight, so there was less chance for rotation, but I am very satisfied with the guys. Our goal was to keep the gap as close as possible. The key moment of the game was when [David] Vojvoda made his lucky three-pointer at the end of the third quarter. I congratulate Szolnok; it was a very good game."
Reggio Emilia Player Troy Bell
"We tried to solve our problem, that we missed two of our key players. We did our best and fought hard, but it wasn't enough for the win tonight."
Szolnok Head Coach Dragan Aleksic
"I am very happy about this win. It was an important game for us regarding the qualification to the next round. Our players played the game we discussed, and they stayed focused and fought for 40 minutes."
Szolnok Player Marton Bader
"It was a really important game for us. We knew it would be a hard and tough game. We played the way our coach asked us, in attack and defence as well. We functioned as a team during the whole game. We could stop their long passes and control our turnovers. Two tired teams were playing tonight, and both teams brought out the maximum possible energy."
