|Andre Smith led Pinar Karsiyaka to a convincing road win in Mons|
Pinar Karsiyaka sealed their place in the Quarter-Finals of the EuroChallenge by winning at Dexia Mons-Hainaut on Tuesday.
The Turkish club prevailed 87-76 to end Last 16 play with a 4-2 record and a second-place finish in Group J behind Krka Novo Mestoa (5-1), who won against Antwerp in their game.
Dexia only had a slim chance of progressing.
They not only needed a triumph, but a 24-point margin of victory because of Karsiyaka's 94-71 home win over the Belgians back on February 1.
On Tuesday, Karsiyaka were led by Andre Smith's 23 points and 12 rebounds while Osiris Eldridge contributed 20 points and Jovo Stanojevic 15.
David Holston also had a nice performance with 13 points, six assists and eight boards.
For Dexia, Ron Lewis had 18 points.
Marcus Hatten (Player of Dexia):
"We didn't play a good game, but our opponents were very strong, and they played at a high level. I'm not satisfied, far from it, not by any means, not by a long way.
We were dominated in the rebounds during all the game, and our second quarter was very bad. Now, with a challenge less, we must be concentrated on the league and the cup..."
Arik Shivek (Coach of Dexia):
"First,I want to congratulate Izmir which was stronger, and is a team with many qualities, good shooters, and plays with much intensity during fourty minutes.
Actually, we're knowing up and downs from one game to another one,and that what happened last week, with a defeat in Anvers in the championship after having won in EuroChallenge. I think we've made a good job with good games against a team from Poland, and also two french teams, but in this round, Novo Mesto and Pinar were opponents too strong....
Now,we have to hold up our head in the next weeks!"
Andre Smith (Player of Pinar Karsiyaka):
"The coach had told us it wouldn't be easy, despite the fact we had a big advantage as far as the first leg was concerned, and specially the average, and we won a very tough game, because Dexia put us in problems during the first quarter.
"With a perfect second quarter, everything became easy and I'm very happy to reach a further round..."
Hakan Demir (Coach of Pinar Karsiyaka):
"Dexia was very competitive in EuroChallenge, and I provide the opportunity to congratulate my colleague for his job.We played a very good game and never fell headlong into a trap, and my players did their best to keep calm in some moments of a difficult first quarter.
"I'm happy to play the final eight for the first time of the story of the club, and I know it will not be easy to play Saint Petersbourg with maybe a crucial leg in Russia, but our purpose is reached!
Everybody was at it's level and we played with agressivity when it was necessary."
