Cholet Look To Slam Door On Kyiv

25 March 2009

Nando De Colo has warned his Cholet teammates to play tough-as-nails defense on Wednesday night against BC Kyiv or risk missing out on the EuroChallenge Final Four.

Cholet have been one of the competitions top sides and appeared to be cruising into the Final Four last week in Kyiv after romping to victory in Game 1.

But Erman Kunter's men blew an 18-point second-half lead and lost 77-72, leaving De Colo and Co needing to win a deciding Game 3 back on French soil.

"Against Kiev, we will need to recover our defensive intensity," said De Colo, a France international.

Cholet have hit a very busy stretch in their campaign.

They hosted and won a national league game against Vichy on March 14 and on March 17 prevailed at home over Kyiv in Game 1 of their EuroChallenge Quarter-Final tie.

Forty-eight hours later and after a long flight to Ukraine, Cholet surrendered their 18-point cushion to leave the series knotted at 1-1.

They followed that up with an 84-79 defeat at Le Mans on Sunday.

One player who seems to have fresh legs for Cholet is Rodrigue Beaubois, who was seven of nine from the floor on his way to 27 points against Le Mans.

In that display, the 21-year-old was three of five from long range.

Beaubois has been so prolific from three-point range in the  EuroChallenge (25 of 59, 42.4%) that it wouldn't be surprising if he were named in a preliminary squad for the national team one day.

In the French league this season, he has not been as lethal, making 27% (19 of 68) from behind the arc.

Kiev, meanwhile, have bolstered their line-up for the rest of the Superleague campaign by signing Serbian Nikola Vasic.

However, Vasic has joined too late to help the club in the EuroChallenge.
