Gran Canaria are facing the difficult task of having to win a road game next week to assure themselves of a place in Round II of the EuroCup after falling at RheinEnergie Koln in Group B on Tuesday.
The German team won 78-66 for their fourth victory in five games, while the Canary Islanders slipped to 3-2 in the competition.
They have a game at Basket Groot Leuven next week.
Should they lose, and BC Zadar upset RheinEnergie, the two sides will have 3-3 records but the Croatian team will advance with a superior goal average in the direct games against Gran Canaria.
They split their two games with Gran Canaria.
RheinEnergie are definitely in the next phase.
They have Immanuel McElroy and Glenn McGowan to thank for their fourth win in five contests as they combined to score 48 points - McGowan had a game-high 26 points - in the win over Gran Canaria.
McElroy also had nine rebounds and seven assists.
