Following a victory over Ukrainian title favourites BC Kyiv this weekend, Khimik’s fans expected nothing less than a win in their side’s FIBA Europe League match-up with Hapoel Tel Aviv.
And that is exactly what Khimik were able to deliver, defeating the visitors 82-79 in a closely fought contest.
The win sees Khimik move into 3rd place in Group D, while Hapoel are hanging onto the final play-off spot in 4th position.
Point guard Dmytro Bazelevskyy and forwards Mladan Silobad and Nerijus Varnelis were the main architects of Hapoel’s downfall as they combined for 43 points. The trio were especially lethal from 3-point range and nailed 6/10 three-pointers.
It was Ukrainian national team center Sergey Lishuk who made the game safe for Khimik. His 2 free throws in the 38th minute gave the home side the cushion they needed to hold on for a 4th FIBA Europe League victory.
