Ireland made a triumphant return to the European basketball landscape with a 66-61 victory over Denmark in their first game at the U18 European Championship Division B following five years of absence.
The country's last victory at U18 level was a 55-49 win over Switzerland on August 7, 2007 at the U18 European Championship Division B. Flood, Coombes and Co. snapped Ireland's 11-game losing streak in the competition.
Ireland's last competitive action at senior international level was the qualifiers for EuroBasket 2009, where they went 2-6 and failed to qualify. In 2010, the Irish Basketball Federation formally exited the international field.
But the Federation is in the process of building up the sport and wants to be more involved.
2016's FIBA Europe General Assembly will be hosted in Ireland and the country has shown a great interest in hosting youth events in the future.
