Turkey Shut Italy Out Of Fourth Quarter

5. Berk Ugurlu (Turkey)
Berk Ugurlu made it difficult work for Italy's guards on Monday night, with his aggressive style of defence

Turkey broke away from Italy late in the fourth quarter to record a 75-68 win in the team's first Second Round game of the U18 European Championship in Liepaja on Monday.

The experience of Kenan Sipahi, returning to the line-up after resting against Ukraine on Saturday night, was pivotal in Turkey running away late in the fourth quarter of the Group F meeting. Sepahi scored four points in the final minutes, breaking a 65-65 deadlock with five minutes to play.

Turkey scored 21 fourth quarter points to avoid another heartbreaking loss after Saturday night's one-point shock defeat at the hands of Ukraine.

The Italians looked to be in trouble heading into the second quarter, but a scoring explosion from Luca Vencato, who poured in his only eight points of the game in a hurry, helped Italy to the lead before a 7-0 run by Turkey set up a tight second half.

17 points and six rebounds from Metecan Birsen led Turkey while Sipahi added 10, five rebounds and eight assists.

Small forward Daniel Donzelli led Italy with 15 points.
