Serbia Blow Away Slovenia In Opener

6. Vasilije Pusica (Serbia)
Vasilije Pusica came close to picking up a triple-double for Serbia, finishing with 11 points, nine assists and nine rebounds

A fast-paced and relentless Serbia piled on the points in a blowout 88-56 win over Slovenia at the U18 European Championship Ventspils on Thursday.

Serbia established their high-speed offence from the onset courtesy of four quick baskets at the ring, opting to attack the paint and Slovenia's hapless defence at every opportunity over four high-scoring quarters.

Ognjen Jaramaz led Serbia's quick attack by scoring eight first quarter points as Slovenia failed to keep up with the transition pace of the Serbians. A full court-press failed to stop Serbia's advance as the score blew out from a 25-point half-time margin to as much as 34 in the second half.

Serbia shot 55% from the field while scoring 24 fast-break points whilst managing to get some valuable rest for their starters. Their defence did a commendable job - no Slovenian player managed to score in double figures.

Shooting guard Vasilije Pusica flirted with a triple double, scoring 11 points to go along with nine points and nine assists. Center Milenko Veljkovic contributed a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in just 10 minutes.

Point guard Matic Rebec scored six points, handed out six assists and grabbed six rebounds to lead Slovenia.
