GAME REPORT

France Slam Russia To Finish Seventh

5. Medhy-Sofian Ngouama (France)
Medhy-Sofian Ngouama got in on the action for France with eight points

Turning Point: France scored 26 points in the third quarter while holding Russia to just nine to turn the game into a 30-point blowout.
Game Hero: French coach Tahar Assed-Liegeon gave Paul Rigot freedom to operate and the big man responded with a personal best return in Latvia of 23 points, his first double-digit scoring night of the Championship, and 11 rebounds.
Stats Don't Lie: France scored 21 fast-break points, totally overrunning Russia's hapless transition defence.

France finished the U18 European Championship in seventh position after defeating Russia 81-59 in Riga on Sunday.

France opted to go to a zone defence early and Viacheslav Fedorchenko was more than happy to use his speed to break it down, scoring seven quick points and creating a number of other open looks as the defence collapsed on his constant penetration and Russia went up early.

But when Paul Rigot hit double-figures four minutes into the second with a three from the right wing before nine Damien Inglis points in slightly more than a minute gave France their first lead in over 10 minutes of game time.

A wild attempt from Etienne Ory drew three free-throws on the halftime buzzer, pushing the French lead into double-figures.

A frenzied French attack started the third quarter on a 22-5 run and increased the lead to 30 points in a matter of minutes. Center William Pfister got in on the scoring action to provide a third threat alongside the unstoppable Rigot and Inglis duo.

Rigot's 23 points led France while Inglis added 18 points and 17 rebounds.

Fedorchenko topped Russia with 16 points.
