Vlad Moldoveanu scored 30 points and Romania got off to a red hot start in beating Portugal 77-54 in the semi-finals of the UMCOR U18 European Championship Division B in Sibiu, Romania.
Moldoveanu scored 14 of his 30 points during a dominant first quarter in which Romania led 37-9.
Romania started the game by outscoring Portugal 14-1.

Later in the quarter he scored five straight on a three-pointer and a lay-up to put Romania ahead 32-9.
“I couldn’t do it by myself,” said Moldeveanu.
“I got a lot of open shots today. We had great teamwork.”
The quarter was punctuated by Titus Nicoara’s three-pointer at the buzzer which put the host nation in front 37-9.
“We didn’t allow them any second chance shots and then we were able to score off the fast break,” said Moldeveanu, who also grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked four shots.
“We tried to limit their possessions.”
With their blistering start, Romania easily cruised to victory.
“We talked about the importance of getting off to a good start and playing well in the first and second quarter,” said Moldeveanu.
“And we did that. Today was our day.”
Nicoara scored 18 and grabbed 19 rebounds, while Dragos Pana added a competition personal-best 13 points.
As a result of the win, Romania is relegated to Division A next year.
