EURAS Ekaterinburg 107 Tartu Rock 97

02 December 2003

Euras Ekaterinburg prevailed over Estonian club Tartu Rock at home tonight, 107:97, thanks to another outstanding performance from guard, Ainars Bagatskis. The Latvian sharpshooter had his second consecutive 40-point game of the season, racking up 42 points in the win.

Despite the scoring outburst from Bagatskis, it was Euras’ center Niksa Tarle who was the outstanding man for the home team early on, and he hit for 8 of his side’s 18 first quarter points. Rock stayed neck and neck with Euras thanks mainly to 7 points from Tarmo Kikerpill.

In fact, it was Rock that took control of the game throughout the second and third quarters and they maintained a slim lead going into the 4th.

The last period belonged to the home team and Rock were simply unable to stop Bagatskis and Tarle (who finished the game with 20 points and 20 rebounds). Euras outscored Rock 30:16 and cruised home to victory.

Bagatskis is now averaging a remarkable 40 points per game, having hit 10/20 3-pointers in 2 games. The 198cm guard has been one of the top scorers in Europe for over a decade, and at 36 years of age, shows no sign of slowing up.

He put up 14 ppg for Latvia at the 2003 European Championships for Men and has averaged has much as 25ppg during the 1997 Saporta Cup with ASK Riga. Click here to see the numbers.

He was named MVP of the game.

Kikerpill finished with a team high 22 points for Rock.
