|Vladimir Chevel (Avtodor) sometimes just needs one hand to score 22 points and grab 6 rebounds|
The beginning of the game was marked by the dominating play of Avtodor. After 5 minutes the hosts were leading 14-6. Vladimir Chevel, the guard of Avtodor, showed a remarkable play in only his second game with the team. He scored 7 of the 14 points in Avtodor´s jump start.
TTÜ were lead by forward Lawrence Daniels (24 points and 12 rebounds), who gave Avtodor some headaches early on. Center Roman Gorelovsky got 3 fouls against Daniels and was benched. But no other player of Avtodor was able stop Daniels either. He overplayed his opponents at will and so the Estonian team managed to equal the score at the end of the first quarter (20:20).
In the second quarter Saratov guard Andrei Ivanov and forward Lamayn Wilson (15 points, 11 rebounds and 3 steals) were outstanding. Ivanov successfully attacked the opponents’ basket, while Wilson had 3 brilliant steals. for the guests Petri Virtanen (23 points) schowed some nice shooting from the 3-point line. The score after the second quarter – 42:38.
The third quarter Started with Avtador pulling away 10-3. the Russian side captain Denis Khloponine (20 points and 6 rebounds) showed his great play and made three successful attacks onthe opponents’ basket. The visiting team showed a very strong play never wanting to give up. Daniels and Virtanen tried their best to save the game. But their efforts didn’t have success – 8 minutes before the end of the game the hosts were leading 65:56. Avtodor now played with full force and so with 4.44 to go for the fist time lead by double digits.
The unquestioned leader of the game was Avtodor guard Vladimir Chevel (22 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals), who successfully attacked from the 3-point line and made some very good breakthroughs to the basket. With his efforts in the last minutes the Russians secured a well deserved 87-71 win.
