21 January 2004

17-years old Manuchar Markoishvili scored 15 points in his FIBA Europe Cup debut for MBC
MBC stays undefeated in the FIBA Europe Cup and won easily 92:53 against KK Hiron Zagreb.

MBC – head coach Henrik Dettmann’s team had to play without the stars Wendell Alexis, Paul Burke and also without the young Belgium international Michael Krikemans.

Stephen Arigbabu, the team captain, was unable to play the whole game because of an injury.

The first quarter started with 2 equal teams and that’s why KK Hiron Zagreb could lead with 8:4 (7:00 min). Only because of Marius Petravicius’ powerful game in the zone, MBC could take the lead.

17-years old Georgian NBA-prospective Manuhar Markoishvili did a great job and sank a three pointer 2:30 before the end of the first quarter, which gave MBC a 21-14 lead.

Markoishvili and Chauncey Leslie just played their second game for the “Wolves”. After 10 minutes MBC led with 31:20.

After the short break former German international Sebastian Machowski – a three pointer specialist – sank 2 distance throws into the basket.

After 16 minutes MBC led already by 21 points (44-23). At this moment the game was decided.

The half time score was 49:31.

In the third period MBC showed in front of 1014 spectators a very hard defence and so the lead was 24 points (68-44).

In the last 10 minutes KK Hiron coach Dean Jovovic gave a chance to the young players of his team but they had no chance against the internationally experienced MBC-stars. MBC could play cat and mouse with the opponents.

So the Germans deserved the 92:53 victory, the fifth out of 5 games. MBC is the only undefeated team in the Central Conference of the FIBA Europe Cup.
