Kommatos Learns The System At Rostov
Nestoras Kommatos didn’t hesitate when he had a chance to join the growing multitude of foreigners who have moved to Russia.
Kommatos, a Greek, signed with Lokomotiv Rostov and is hoping to be a big part of their assault on honors in the EuroCup and the Superleague.
The forward said: "I got the offer only two days before my arrival in Rostov and I don't regret about my decision.
“The atmosphere in the team is perfect, and all the players treat their responsibilities professionally.”
So far, Lomotiv are sixth in Russia with two wins in four games.
Their season got off to a thrilling start, a 77-75 overtime win at home over EuroCup rivals Ural Great, with Sergey Vorotnikov ’s late three-pointer lifting them to the victory.
Kommatos had just joined the team and only played briefly in that game.
Lokomotiv then suffered a heavy defeat to reigning Superleague champions CSKA Moscow before blowing an early fourth quarter lead against Dynamo Moscow and losing.
Kommatos and Co hit back with a decisive triumph over Enisey Krasnoyarsk. On on Thursday, they travel to face another EuroCup rival in Spartak St Petersburg.
Kommatos admits he has not made much of an impact yet, but he still hopes to be an influential player for the team.
“I'm only for two weeks in the team and every game isn't easy for me,” Kommatos said.
“I don't know all the features of my new team because all the players have been training for two months.
“But I’m trying to be a part of the team every day and it seems to me that I'm starting to improve.”
