Hungary and Serbia fought out a tough defensive encounter, with Hungary prevailing 44-33 to give the home fans an opening-day win to celebrate at the U16 European Championship Women in Debrecen.

Turning Point: Serbia scored the final six points of the first half to at least make the second half more competitive, as a rout had been on the cards. But their offensive problems in scoring only seven points in the opening 18 minutes had sealed their fate.

Game Hero: In a hard-fought battle, Petra Panna Pusztai grabbed some impressive steals in recording four in total as both offences struggled, with no player registering more than eight points.

Stats Don't Lie: Serbia's offence couldn't get going at all, ending with 22.2% shooting from the field for the match.

The Bottom Line: It doesn't get any easier for the Serbian team as defending champions Spain await them on Friday. Hungary will look to build on their win when they take on Croatia in their second Group A match.
