Petra Panna Pusztai had a good all-round game for Hungary

Agnes Studer sank a buzzer-beating three-pointer right in front of her bench to thrill the home fans and secure a 55-52 win for Hungary over Croatia at the U16 European Championship Women.

Turning Point: The hosts had fallen behind in a stagnant third quarter, but Reka Lelik came off the bench to kick-start the offence. She hit a three-pointer before converting a beautiful reverse lay-up and then a stylish spin move through the lane, bringing her team back into the game.

Game Hero: For a few horrible moments, it seemed as if Studer would be far from the hero of the day. She missed two free throws down the stretch, and Valentina Simunic was then fouled on a drive. Studer paced nervously as Simunic converted the first to tie the game, but her second rimmed out. The rebound came to Studer, who raced up court before pulling up just over half-court. She shot, the buzzer sounded, the ball touched nothing but net, the crowd erupted and Studer was quickly engulfed by her ecstatic teammates. What a feeling!

Stats Don't Lie: Both offences struggled, combining for just 30% from the field. Josipa Silov was Croatia's shining light, nailing five three-pointers on her way to a game-high 22 points. But ultimately, Hungary's massive edge in rebounding was too much for Croatia to withstand.

The Bottom Line: Hungary can begin planning for the second round, but they face a significant test as they take on defending champions Spain on Saturday. Croatia will play Serbia with both teams reeling after tough losses. The winner will join Hungary and Spain in advancing to the second round.

They Said: "That game was a coach-killer! Agnes is a winner-type. We always throw some half-court shots in the last practice before a game, but I haven't seen anything like that" - Hungary head coach Gergely Magyar
