Hungary held off the Netherlands for a 54-45 Group F win to ensure they and France qualify for the U16 European Championships Women quarter-finals.
The Dutch zone defense slowed down the Hungarian offense in the opening exchanges and Mirte Scheper's shot dropped at the buzzer to give the Netherlands a 14-10 lead.
Hungary came roaring back in the second quarter behind an 11-0 run, working through Virag Kiss in the paint, before Janis Ndiba's three-point play broke the Dutch scoring drought.
The Hungarian team continued to press home their advantage in the third quarter, Debora Dubei's three-pointer swelling the lead to 12.
The Netherlands fought hard to keep their tournament alive behind tough defense, and they reduced the deficit to seven in the final quarter. But they could not get any closer as Hungary held on to clinch their place in the quarter-finals.
Ndiba finished with 12 points, 22 rebounds and seven steals in a valiant effort, but Kiss and Eniko Kuttor had 18 and 14 rebounds respectively for Hungary in a tough battle of the boards.
Hungary's guards led all scorers, with Dubei's 14 points supplemented by Virag Weninger's 13.
Hungary face one last test in fine-tuning for the quarter-finals as they take on Italy on Wednesday, with both teams looking to finish Group F well.
