|Aida Sow sparked France with 15 points off the bench|
France boosted their hopes of qualifying for the U16 European Championship Women quarter-finals with a strong fourth quarter on their way to a 68-56 Group F win over Belgium.
Belgium began the game well and took a 12-4 lead, but a slick pick-and-roll led Fleur Afonso to feed Alexandrine Obouh Fegue to bring France within four at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter followed a similar pattern with Belgium pulling away and France reeling them back in, before Fauve Bastiaenssen's drive gave the Belgian team a three-point half-time lead.
Belgium were shooting well from outside, with Silke Lenssens draining two long-range shots early in the third period before Elise Ramette and Pauline Compere's connections later in the quarter.
But they couldn't get anything going inside, and the French offense began to click behind Ornella Bankole (19 points) and Lisa Berkani (15 points), with Aida Sow (15 points) providing a great boost off the bench.
Margot Bienvenu's athletic put-back from Bankole's miss gave the French team a 46-41 lead heading into the final quarter, and they surged clear as they restricted the Belgian team to just two points in the opening five minutes of the fourth period.
Lenssens ended with 15 points, four rebounds and four assists for Belgium, while Serena-Lynn Geldof added 16 points and seven rebounds.
