Netherlands snatched victory from the jaws of defeat after twice blowing leads down the stretch to lose an overtime heartbreaker 71-73 against Denmark.
Leading 65-56 with four minutes of regulation left, they failed to score another bucket and even in overtime they still managed to make the same mistake again.
Leading 71-67, their offence dried up once more and Denamrk scored the last six points of the game to wrap up a thrilling win. Mathilde Gilling claimed a double-double for the victors with 11 points and 10 rebounds while Gabrielle Van Den Bosch claimed a game high 30 points for Netherlands.
In the same group, 23 points from Jessica Almeida helped Portugal to secure a fine 69-56 success over Bosnia & Herzegovina. The victory was made difficult with Nikolina Milic claiming a stunning 29 points and 16 rebounds for the losing team but a strong second half by Portugal ensured they claimed the win. Paula Couto and Joana Jesus both securing 14 points each.
In Group E, Croatia continue to dominate after they secured a comfortable 55-46 win over Romania. A blistering 23-9 first quarter gave the Romanian team a mountain to climb and even with the irrepressible Sonia Ursu, they were not able to meet the challenge. Andrijana Cvitkovic was the MVP of the game with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Finally Slovak Republic chalked up a 64-56 win over Lativa after a strong finish to the game. The result was still hanging in the balance with just under two minutes remaining and the scores tied but Slovak Republic rattled off an 8-0 run to wrap up the victory. Sabina Oroszova, Noema Bradananska and Beata Janoscikova all posted double digit scores for Slovak Republic. Meanwhile Sabine Dukate claimed a game high 21 points for Lativa.
