| Elisa Ercoli accrued 12 points and 11 points for Italy, who will now battle Russia for fifth spot|
Italy will compete with Russia for fifth spot at the U18 European Championship Women after overrunning Sweden 71-45 on the penultimate day of the tournament in Vukovar.
Elisa Ercoli and Cecilia Zandalasini were the two standout performers for Italy, with the former accruing 12 points and 10 rebounds, whilst the latter also completed a double-double by garnering 12 points and 11 boards.
Having been brutally routed in their quarter-final match-up against Spain, the Swedes still seemed to be carrying the adverse effects of that loss into the game as they fell 20-11 behind in the first quarter.
Things did not get any better as they fell 14 points behind by the midway point of the game as Italy retained control.
They were then able to assert even more authority when they held Sweden to just five points in the third period.
With the Italians scoring plenty of fast-break points, Sweden began to fade and when Francesca Gambarini made it 56-31 near the start of the final quarter, the game was effectively over.
Gabriella Hanson had 11 points, six rebounds and four assists for Sweden who will face Turkey in a showdown for seventh place.
