Antwerp Giants were left stunned after being routed 89-70 on their home court by French side Roanne Basket who breathed life into their own challenge by recording a first success in the second phase of the tournament. Having collected two wins in their opening two games, Antwerp could barely have expected what was to follow as Roanne started and finished the game brightly to seal a fine victory. | | Uchenna Nsonwu once again was sharp for Roanne with 22 points and 8 rebounds |
Roanne didn't take long to get their offence firing on all cylinders and were positive from the outset as they opened up with a 29-22 first quarter. Much as Antwerp tried to wrestle the initiative away from their opponents, they still trailed 48-42 heading into the third quarter. It was a similar story during the penultimate period as the run they anticipated failed to materialise or at least until the final quarter when they made their move. With just over six minutes remaining until the final buzzer, the home team got to within three points at 69-66 and it looked like the French might crumble. However it was the Belgian club that imploded as Roanne conjured up a magnificent 20-4 run to finish the game Uchenna Nsonwu and Ralph Mims led the way with 42 points between them while Dylan Page buried four triples in the game. Thomas Gardener was the pick for Antwerp with five three-pointers. |
